Welcome to AIBC

Welcome to the Australia India Business Council – the peak body which facilitates bilateral business and trade across Australia and India.
India is Australia’s 10th largest trading partner and 5th largest export market, and I am humbled and delighted to have been elected in this role as National Chair at an important time in the history of the Australia-India relationship.

AIBC was set up 30 years ago by former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke and visiting former Indian Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi. The AIBC mandate was to engage with the Australian business community as well as with the Indian business community to drive bilateral business and trade opportunities between the two countries.

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s visit to India in September 2014 and Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia in November of the same year brought a fresh wave of enthusiasm for more business between the two countries. Today, this commitment is as strong as ever with both governments.

Strong trade relationships are central to the future of Australia and India, as well as the broader APAC region and the global economy. I am passionate about bolstering even closer economic, cultural and business ties between Australia and India, and am thoroughly committed to my responsibility in representing our members’ interests.

AIBC is an active voice, involved in policy and advocacy roles. AIBC maintains close relationships with federal and state government agencies, the diplomatic corps and industry bodies, and showcases business opportunities to the Australian business community through an active program of events nationally.

AIBC’s Industry Chapters further assist in addressing specific issues within those specific industries. AIBC plays a leadership role in conducting a wide range of activities in Australia and India which include:

  • Organising targeted business delegations to India
  • Hosting Indian business delegations in Australia
  • The Annual Australia India Address is a signature business event with very high profile speakers organised by each AIBC State Chapter office where Prime Ministers, Premiers, High Commissioners and Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade have been invited to address
  • India Budget & Australian Economic Update
  • Major business events with dignitaries from India and Australia
  • Numerous business networking events for our members
  • Business information and educational events for our members

I invite you to join us for our '30 years' celebrations, which have only just begun.
