ORIGIN & KEY MILESTONES

1986

AIBC (Australia India Business Council) was set up following recognition of the enormous trade potential between the countries by the Prime Ministers of the day, Bob Hawke of Australia and Rajiv Gandhi of India

1996

A decade later, a visit to India by then Prime Minister John Howard, accompanied by a high level delegation, marked resurgence in the Australian Government’s commitment to strengthening bi-lateral relations between the two nations

2007

The largest ever delegation from Australia to India, led by the Australian Government’s Minister for Trade followed for the Joint Ministerial Business Council Meeting held at New Delhi

2013

At present, the two-way trade exceeds $23Bn per year, as the two nations head full tilt for the commercial ties that bind

2014

AIBC Chairman was invited to join Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s CEO delegation to India in August. AIBC National Vice Chair in her capacity as CEO MultiConnexions was also invited to join the CEO delegation.

2015

AIBC actively supports CECA initiative. Discussions in progress.

2016

  • AIBC AFR first ever National Business conference - Engaging with India
  • AIBC hosts Inaugural Trade and Investment awards to celebrate excellence among Indian Business in Australia and Australian businesses in India
  • AIBC hosts inaugural Woman in Business Award
  • AIBC elects its first National Chairwoman

2017

  • AIBC leads a delegation to Vibrant Gujrat Global Business Summit in January
  • AIBC to lead a Women in Business delegation towards latter half of 2017
