The Australia India Business Council – Victoria, presents the Best Business Awards for organisations that demonstrate the core values of business innovation, employee engagement, experience management, technology innovation, individual contribution, small, medium and large business via a set of comprehensive award categories.

Organizational Eligibility

Organizational eligibility includes private companies, publicly listed companies, multinational subsidiaries, not-for-profit organizations, non-government organizations, educational institutions, franchise systems, partnerships, government departments, government agencies, local government and statutory bodies operating in Australia.

Organizations are required to complete a submission for a specific business initiative, product, or service. Business initiatives can include projects, programs, processes, systems, technologies, developments, ventures, and undertakings. Products can include services, devices, equipment, programs, processes, activities, applications, information, knowledge, software, cloud-based services, platforms, systems, and manufactured goods. Products must be commercially available on the Australian market and comply with all applicable Australian standards and regulatory requirements. Product eligibility includes domestic and international products available to the Australian marketplace.

Entry Requirement

The AIBC VIC business awards is open to all existing and new AIBC​ Members based out of Victoria or AIBC Members with an office in Victoria.

Application Document

To apply, a written statement prepared by the applicant. The application must include:

  • An introductory paragraph of 150 – 200 words describing the work for which the applicant is seeking an award.
  • The applicant’s response to the selection criteria as outlined under each award description.
  • The written statement is limited to five pages (minimum 11-point type in Arial, Times New Roman or similar font).

Best Technology Award

The Australia India Business Council Victoria recognizes the business or organization that has successfully implemented initiatives that demonstrate excellence in business technology management.

Judges will be looking for a clear description of an outstanding campaign/project or tech innovation that has significantly impacted society and made a lasting and positive change.

  • Provide a basic overview of the technology and its functionalities.
  • Clearly identify the budget and objectives of the campaign or project.
  • Show evidence of the creativity employed and how this was implemented. Judges are looking for fresh, innovative thinking, best practice examples, partnership working where appropriate, and resourcefulness.
  • Judges are looking for tangible results and evaluation that can be quantified, qualified and substantiated. Ensure these relate to your objectives.
  • Judges want to know how your campaign or project has made a real impact or gained significant traction. Show evidence of best practice and an innovative and creative approach that has helped change lives for the better.

Best Information Technology

Best Innovation Award

The Australia India Business Council Victoria recognizes the business or organization that has successfully implemented initiatives that demonstrate leadership and commitment to business innovation.

Judges will be looking for a clear description of an outstanding innovation or tech product, with indication of budget:

  • Provide the budget and costs involved in creating/implementing your innovation.
  • Provide details of the innovation or product including details of the implementation of this work or product.
  • Judges are looking for an innovation that has led to extraordinary results within a sector and been a pioneer for change leading to transformative outcomes.

Marketing Excellence Award

The Australia India Business Council Victoria recognizes the organization and marketer who has achieved excellence and success from innovative and effective marketing.

Each nomination will be judged against the following criteria – for all categories:

  • The extent to which the person, team or project has reflected the intent expressed in the category descriptor
  • The entry shows a clear alignment between the situational analysis, strategy, actions undertaken, and outcomes achieved (against set goals and objectives).
    Judges will allocate scores across these dimensions.
  • Evidence of commercial benefits to business and/or social impact; return on marketing expenditure and/or degree of social change
  • Action-ability of results, including clarity of recommendations, relevance, and feasibility of marketing initiatives
  • Ethical practices

Marketing Excellence

Creative Excellence Award

The Australia India Business Council Victoria recognizes the organization that promotes creativity, excellence and outstandingly executed. The judges will be assessing based on one or more of the following areas:

  • Design Excellence: The aesthetic, artistic and visual value of the overall design.
  • Creativity & Originality: does the design stand out, provide something new to the market or supplement/improve an existing product or service? Is the idea original?
  • Impact & Emotional Significance: the benefit delivered to the user and/or society by the design.
  • Content: Is the writing, script, narrative high quality?
  • Technological Innovation: Is the design incorporating suitable and innovative technologies?
  • Utility: Does the design meet the intended purpose and needs of the user?
  • Emotional quotient: In addition to fulfilling its practical purpose, will the design create a sense of enjoyment, satisfaction, ideas in graphic design, communication, advertising, and digital media?

Creative Excellence

Best Small/Medium Business of the Year Award

This award is for a small or medium business that has made an outstanding contribution to either the local community or their industry.

Judges will assess applications based on the reflection on the contribution made by the business over the past 10 years and include:

  • The long-term impact of the business through areas such as business growth, innovation, new jobs creation and customer service for the past 10 years
  • Demonstration of exceptional commitment to giving back to the community whether it is charity support, environmental policies/strategies or support or involvement of local community organizations.

Eligibility: Small Business of the Year must have fewer than 25 employees or full-time equivalents. Medium Business of the Year must have 25-75 full-time employees.

Best Small/ Medium Business

Best Large Business of the Year Award

This award is for a large business that has made an outstanding contribution to either the local community or their industry.

Judges will assess applications based on the reflection on the contribution made by the business over the past 10 years and include:

The long-term impact of the business through areas such as business growth, innovation, new jobs creation and customer service for the past 10 years

Demonstration of exceptional commitment to giving back to the community whether it is charity support, environmental policies/strategies or support or involvement of local community organizations.

Eligibility: Large Business of the Year must have 75 or more full-time employees.

Best Large Business

Entrepreneur of the Year

The Australia India Business Council Victoria recognizes the individual who has attained extraordinary business success throughout the year.

Judges will be looking for clear answers to the following questions as per the assessment:

  • What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
  • What drives you in building your business? How do you stay focused on the journey?
  • Explain how your business philosophies and values are reflected in your business?
  • How do you maintain your physical and mental wellbeing?
  • How do you use creativity and innovation in building your business?
  • Describe some of the challenges you have faced. With each challenge, tell us about the impact and how did you deal with it?
  • What lessons have you learned?

This category will accept nominations of exemplary responses by companies to the COVID-19 crisis to ensure the well-being of their employees, customers, and communities.

Hints and tips when writing your entries

When reading an entry, the judges consider various elements that need to be included, so below are a few tips and hints to help you when writing yours. You do, of course, need to take into account the category you are entering and only apply the points that are applicable to your case.

Explain how your business has demonstrated success by including the following:

  • Financial results
  • Customer benefits
  • Employee benefits
  • Community benefits
  • Investor benefits

Also, please try to:

  • Clearly state success measures and try not to leave any gaps in your data (i.e., don’t cherry pick which figures/stats you provide as the judges won’t have the full picture).
  • Explain how and why you identified a need for your product/service/change/initiative and what planning/development went into it.
  • Highlight the market reaction e.g., press coverage, customer feedback, industry awards and anything else you may think is relevant.
  • Provide projections for future market share, distribution, and sales volumes. As always, a clear strategic rationale and measurable results are key
