Yaz was born and raised in Mumbai and arrived in Western Australia in 1997. Before entering the WA Parliament, he built a career as a small-business owner and community leader, including running the Success Post Office. He also served as a City of Cockburn councillor before entering State Parliament in 2017.
Following the 2025 WA election, Yaz became the inaugural Member for Oakford. His journey from India to Western Australia, through entrepreneurship, community leadership and public service, is a compelling Australia–India success story and is presented as an inspirational feature of the evening.
PANEL DISCUSSION – ECTA: BUILDING TODAY, SHAPING TOMORROW
The Australia–India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) entered into force on 29 December 2022. It has opened significant opportunities for Australian exporters and service providers, with more than 90% of Australian goods exports to India by value to have tariffs eliminated or reduced on full implementation.
The discussion should look beyond the agreement itself and explore how businesses can translate Australia–India trade opportunities into real commercial outcomes, investment, partnerships and growth—particularly for Western Australian businesses.
