The Australia India Business Council, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), recently brought the Australia-India business corridor to Chandigarh for an evening of insights and practical conversations. Marking a historic milestone, this was the first-ever AIBC delegation to northern India, highlighting the expanding reach of our bilateral relationship.
The evening featured high-level perspectives from Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament for Chandigarh and Chairperson of the India-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group, and H.E. Philip Green OAM, Australia’s High Commissioner to India. The program also included a special call-in meeting with Haryana Chief Minister, Hon. Naib Singh Saini, alongside insights from CII Northern Region Chairperson Puneet Kaura and AIBC National Chair Deepak-Raj Gupta OAM on the power of the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). During the visit, the delegation also stopped at the DPS sporting complex in Panipat to interact with a talented international-level girls’ handball team.
North India’s small and medium businesses actively engaged by discussing opportunities, barriers, and real corridor experiences alongside our expert panellists and delegates. The interactive session—ably moderated by Gurmeet Chawla, Vice Chair, CII Chandigarh—brought widespread awareness to ECTA’s two-way benefits, generating numerous queries that demonstrated how strongly bilateral trade can drive tangible business outcomes.
