AIBC and Parliamentary Friends of India session in Canberra

Eminent leaders from government and diaspora gathered for a special event co-hosted by AIBC and the Parliamentary Friends of India (PFI) on 16 October at the Parliament of Australia in Canberra, ACT.

The evening was filled with insightful talks from Andrew Charlton, MP for Parramatta and Chair, PFI, Julian Leeser, MP for Berowra and Co-Chair, PFI, HE Manpreet Vohra, Indian High Commissioner to Australia, and other notable bi-lateral leaders such as Nicholas McCaffrey, DFAT Assistant Secretary for India branch, AIBC’s Irfan Malik (MAICD), National Associate Chair and NSW State Chapter President, Tony Fraser MAICD, ACT State Chapter President and Tim Thomas, CEO, Centre for Australia-India Relations.

In his opening address, Andrew Charlton emphasised the importance of strengthening the bilateral relationship between Australia and India, building on the foundation that has already been established. A noted economist and author, Andrew has recently also launched his widely acclaimed book, titled “Australia’s pivot to India.”

AIBC also provided an opportunity for businesses to showcase their products and services at a dedicated food, agricultural and healthcare/medtech showcase.

The event also featured the launch of a postage stamp on Shri. Mammootty, the popular film star and philanthropist who has been working closely with the Indian diaspora in Australia with the familyconnect project.
