AIBC bid a fond goodbye to Manpreet Vohra, Indian High Commissioner to #Australia, with a farewell reception for him and wife Naseem at the Parliament of NSW in #sydney on 8 December 2023. Mr Vohra completes his tenure later this month, as he retires from the Indian Foreign Service after an illustrious career of 35 years.
Over 80 people were present at the farewell, including several members of parliament, AIBC members and business partners. The attendees included The Hon Warren Kirby MP, Member for Riverstone; The Hon Scott Farlow MLC; Ms Julia Finn MP, Member for Granville, Charishma Kaliyanda Member for Liverpool and The Hon The Honourable Rachel Merton MLC.
Mr Vohra leaves behind an enduring #legacy, having steered the #Australia–#India relationship at a very crucial time.
The Australia India Business Council is very grateful to the High Commissioner for his unstinting enthusiasm and support. He will be deeply missed.
While reflecting upon his tenure in Australia of two years and eight months, Mr Vohra said, “no diplomat could have ever wished for more”, referring to serendipity as bilateral ties were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) when he arrived in Australia, followed by the speed and relative ease with which both countries have entered into complex agreements and launched many new initiatives. He was also very grateful for all the support he received from the federal, state governments and his team at the high commission. “I am a lucky chap in a lucky country,” he said.
