Turning Strategy into Action: Strengthening the WA–India Economic Partnership
The Australia India Business Council (AIBC) WA was pleased to bring together government, industry and business leaders this morning for our breakfast event, “Turning Strategy into Action: Industry Partnerships Accelerating Trade Between WA and India,” hosted by Infosys in Perth.
AIBC WA thanks Infosys for hosting the event, our distinguished speakers and panellists, and all our members, partners and guests who contributed to a highly engaging morning.
AIBC was honoured to welcome the Hon. David Michael MLA, Minister for Finance, Electoral Affairs and Goldfields–Esperance and Leader of the House, and Ms Kajari Biswas , Consul General of India in Perth.
Their addresses highlighted the growing depth of the Western Australia–India relationship and, importantly, the opportunity to translate strong bilateral ties into greater two-way trade, investment, technology collaboration and industry partnerships.
The discussion then moved from policy to practical implementation through an insightful panel featuring Clayton Franklin, Founder & Chief Engineer, Electric Power Conversions Australia; Abdul Ekram, Director, Asia Desk – Investment, Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade); and Michelle Oates, Infosys.
Isaac Stewart did an outstanding moderating and the panellists shared practical perspectives on doing business across the two markets — from identifying the right partners and navigating investment opportunities to leveraging technology, innovation and local capability to build commercially sustainable relationships.
Distinguished guests joining us included: Michael Carter, CCIWA; Professor Sharath Sriram, Chief Scientist of Western Australia; Pamela Currie, WA State Director, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Graham Reid, CEO of Hockey WA and former Head Coach of the Indian Men’s National Hockey Team; former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg; and Nilesh Makwana, Chair of WAIFC; Bruce Reynolds Lord Mayor City of Perth and David Bolt MLA, Shadow Minister for Commerce
Their presence reflected the breadth of the WA–India relationship today — spanning government, diplomacy, trade, science, technology, investment, industry and sport.
Our committee member Tamara Ann Thorpe was the master of ceremony. It was great teamwork from the committee in getting this event a huge success
